Fortis IBA (South East) Limited – Bespoke Installation Permit Issued

The Environment Agency has issued a new environmental permit for an incinerator bottom ash (IBA) recycling facility to be located at Ridham Dock in Kent.

The application was submitted in January 2020 and the bespoke installation permit was granted to Fortis IBA (South East) Limited in November 2020.

IBA will be imported to the Site before undergoing dry processing and treatment to remove recyclable material and convert the residue into a marketable product in the form of a sustainable recycled aggregate known as IBA Aggregate (IBAA). IBAA will then be exported from the Site for re-use in construction projects. Annual waste throughputs are limited to 400,000 tonnes per annum.

Over the past 10 years, Fortis have recycled, processed and distributed over 1,000,000 tonnes of IBAA into the construction industry. In doing so, they have played an integral part in diverting over 4,000,000 tonnes of waste from landfill.
